StruBIM Steel – software for designing steel structures
StruBIM Steel is a software for design and modeling steel structures and making BIM models. It is a program from the CYPE software collection that covers all technical areas of design.
What is StruBIM Steel?
StruBIM Steel is a powerful tool for creating accurate BIM models of steel structures. It enables users to model all essential elements, including cross-sections, plates, bolts, welded joints, and anchors. The program also supports the generation of drafts in DSTV format, streamlining the fabrication process.
StruBIM Steel has been designed to be efficient, practical, and user-friendly, with a strong focus on meeting the needs of structural engineers and BIM professionals. While the current version already provides a solid foundation, further development will include additional features and an expanded library of predefined connections to enhance the modeling experience.
This early release aims to involve users in the evolution of the software by offering access during the initial development phase. Feedback from real-world use will help refine the program and ensure it meets industry demands.
Users who start with this version will be able to seamlessly transition to future commercial editions, maintaining full compatibility with their existing projects.
Getting Started with StruBIM Steel
StruBIM Steel is integrated into the Open BIM workflow through the BIMserver.center platform. It allows users to import steel components directly from an IFC-based BIM project of their choice. In addition to importing cross-sections from pre-existing structural elements, the program provides intuitive tools for defining new structural components with ease.
During the import process, StruBIM Steel automatically identifies various cross-section types defined in the IFC model. Users can selectively import each element by clicking the corresponding cell in the “Import” column. The “In Library” column indicates whether the cross-section already exists in the internal cross-section library. If a cross-section is parametrically defined in the IFC file but not found in the library, the program will still import it and generate it accordingly.
3D Work Environment
StruBIM Steel provides a 3D modeling environment that offers a clear and detailed visualization of all structural elements. While it follows the familiar layout of standard BIM modeling software, it is designed to be significantly more streamlined and user-friendly.
The main toolbar is located at the top of the interface, while view management tools are conveniently positioned on the left, allowing for intuitive navigation and control of the model.
Modeling and Visualization Tools
StruBIM Steel offers flexible display options, allowing users to switch between different views such as cross-sections, elevations, and more. It also supports toggling between orthogonal and perspective views for better spatial understanding.
The program enables precise modeling of individual components, including sheet metal plates, bolts, anchors, and other steel elements.
With its parametric grid and axis generation tools, users can quickly and efficiently define structural layouts, streamlining the steel modeling process.
Import of DWG / DXF drafts
You can also import your 2D drawings in DWG and DXF format in a very easy way. If you receive corrected/updated DWG drawings, you can refresh and update the imported draft in StruBIM Steel with one click.
Steel connection design
The StruBIM Steel design program has very advanced joint commands. Simply select two elements (e.g. column and beam), then select the type of joint and parameterize it with few clicks. Typical examples of joints (rigid, articulated, welded, screw…) are already available in the library. .
You can edit the joints in a very clear and simple way by entering parameters and dimensions.
Export
StruBIM Steel allows the export of numerical control (NC) files in DSTV format for both sections and plates. These files are automatically saved alongside the IFC file in the project directory and on the BIMserver.center platform.
The program also generates a comprehensive report detailing the quantities of cross-sections, plates, bolts, welds, and anchors used in the model. A complete material list can be generated instantly with a single click in the upper-left corner of the interface.
Simplicity
StruBIM Steel by CYPE is a BIM solution for steel structure design and modeling, offering an exceptionally streamlined experience. Unlike many complex tools on the market, StruBIM Steel stands out for its simplicity.
Its modern and intuitive user interface allows users to get started immediately—no extensive training required. The clean layout and guided workflow make it easy to begin modeling right after installation.
